Milo was “France” for United Nations day at his school last week. His outfit got rave reviews all day and included a beret, black turtleneck, a navy velour bath robe-cum-smoking jacket, une petite moustache, and a snarky attitude.
All of the kids brought food from their country and we had a big potluck. Milo brought baguettes, fromage (Brie & Raclette), and grapes.
Lot’s of singing and learning about different cultures.
Today Milo learned that “zero” means “nothing”…

Milo at Occupy Providence
What’s that group who doesn’t care about the people? Oh yeah, the government. First we yelled at the government. Then we made signs. Then we marched down to the state house until it got dark and then we came home for dinner.
– Milo telling me how he spent his evening (we often talk about our day as part of the bedtime routine).
Rachel and Milo participated in the first day of Occupy Providence this evening. Milo came with us to vote at the last presidential election in 2008 and Rachel claims to have felt Milo’s first kick in utero during a speech by activist Van Jones…so we may have budding protester in the family.
Milo has been attempting these 3 hills since he turned 3. The videos don’t really give a good sense of how big they are. The last one is really quite steep and they are all on dirt roads with lots of rocks and grooves. He’s had a lot of aborts and a couple of good wipeouts and crashes on them, but this past Sunday he had perfect runs on all 3. Nice job Milo!
I have a client who pays in cash and so about once a month I come home with a wad of twenties. I was paid yesterday, and this morning when I went to get the money ready to be deposited, it was nowhere to be seen. I couldn’t find it anywhere – it wasn’t on my desk where I had left it, not in my wallet or bag…I was starting to think I was going nuts or that we had somehow been robbed when I remembered the little gremlin that we live with.
I started making a thorough search of his room but no luck. Finally, on the 2nd pass I found this little cardboard box closed up with $600 in real money, and several hundred more in play money.
Milo: Dad, do you know what smells like dog poo?
Me: Huh?
Milo: Daaad, do you know what smells like doggggg poooo?
Me: I don’t know.
Milo: Come on, guess!
Me: Ummm, dog poo?
Milo: That’s good daddy – good guess!
I decided it was time to take Milo’s obsession with Lighting McQueen to a whole new level. Milo and I took a road trip down to Baltimore over Labor Day weekend to visit our groovy friends Alex, Amy & baby Julian – AND – to watch the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix. We caught the IndyCar series race on Sunday (won by the aptly named Will Power driving the Verizon car).
So hit full screen on the slideshow below and turn up the volume. The cars go insanely fast and are insanely loud – and whether or not you’re into car racing, it was a pretty awesome spectacle to behold. Milo is still talking about the red Target car driven by Scott Dixon and the lime green GoDaddy car driven by Danica Patrick.
We spent most of our time in 2 locations – first along the straightaway just past the chicane and just before the finish line and 2nd just past turn #8 where the cars exit from Pit Row.
